Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to restore political relations with Saudi Arabia to their former state. Saudi Arabia restored political relations with Canada on Wednesday. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that a rift between the two countries that had arisen five times ago over the imprisonment of Riyadh activists has now been resolved. Due to this, the business and collective relations between the two countries were damaged.
There was a rift between the two countries in 2018
In 2018, Canada’s relationship with Saudi Arabia soured following allegations of human rights violations made by Ottawa officials and their demand for the release of imprisoned activists. Now, there is an expressed desire to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries, based on mutual respect and shared interests.
The decision of conciliation was made during the meeting between the two countries-
The decision was taken following conversations between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation( APEC) Forum in Bangkok in November last time, the statement said. The decision has been taken to restore political relations with Saudi Arabia to its former position, Canada’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The two countries also blazoned a new Canadian minister to Saudi Arabia, Jean- Philippe Leanteau.

In 2018, the Saudi government expelled Canada’s minister and recalled its envoy in Ottawa, while indurating all new trade over loud calls for the release of jugged activists in the area.
On Wednesday, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie said the two countries would” appoint new ministers“. Jean- Philippe Leanteau has been named as the new envoy to the Kingdom of Ottawa in a statement from Canada’s foreign ministry. Saudi Arabia made no citation of its selection for the minister.
