What are the Olympic games?
One of the biggest and oldest athletic events in the world is the Olympic Games. The Olympic Games are divided into four categories. The Olympics, which attracts athletes from more than 200 nations, are the biggest sports event in the world. The Olympic Games are made up of the Olympic Games, Olympic Winter Games, and Olympic Summer Games. The winter and summer games are staged two years apart and are held every four years for each type of sport. The Olympic Games are the athletes’ ultimate goal, and making it there is a dream realized. Teams and individuals from several nations assemble to compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals. Every four years, the Olympic Games are held, and each time, new nations host the competitions.
History of Olympics
Greece’s capital city Athens hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. But even then, due to a lack of facilities, issues with organization, and poor player involvement, the Olympics did not evolve into many positive forms over the years. Despite these issues, the players who had little interest in sports gradually succeeded in achieving their Olympic objective.
- French educator and historian Pierre Frede, Baron de Coubertin. Pierre Frede is credited with founding the International Olympics and the contemporary Olympic Games.
- After the Roman ruler Theodosius shut down the Olympics 1500 years previously, the Olympic Games—a tradition lost to ancient Greece—were resurrected in Athens. These games, which took place from April 6 to 15, included 241 participants from 14 different nations.
- Athletics, fencing, cycling, swimming, gymnastics, weightlifting, wrestling, shooting, and tennis were among the 43 events in which participants competed.
- Like the old competitions, only male participants took part in the 1896 Athens Games. It was the only sport in which there were no female participants.
- The champions of these Games received medals for the first time. These medals weren’t any gold ones. Players who finished in first place received a silver medal, an olive branch, and a diploma. Players who finished in second place received a copper medal, a Kalpavriksha branch, and a diploma.
Women participate in the Olympic Games
when the 1896 Summer Olympics were held. Women were then prohibited from taking part in them. However, women competed in the Maha Kumbh Games for the first time at the 1900 Second Olympic Games in Paris.
Neelima Ghosh, who was just 17 years old when she made history as the first Indian woman to compete in the Olympics, was the nation’s first athlete. In 1952, Neelima Ghosh participated in the 100-meter sprint and the 80-meter hurdles.

Neeraj Chopra was born on 24 December 1997. in a farmer family in Khandara near Panipat, Haryana. He improved his javelin throwing abilities at the Sports Authority of India Centre at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula from 2011 to 2015. Neeraj set a record but was unable to earn a spot in the 2016 Olympics. Neeraj Chopra, an Olympic gold medalist in the javelin throw, competes in track & field. Neeraj made Olympic history by winning the gold medal in the javelin throw with a distance of 87.58 meters in Tokyo in 2021. After Abhinav Bindra, Neeraj Chopra became the second Indian to win an athletics gold medal at a World Championship.
