Digital India

The Digital India program is the government of India’s flagship initiative, to transform India into a digitally enabled society and knowledge economy. On July 1, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Digital India’ program from the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi. Digital India is a government of India program that intends to digitize all small and large government departments to speed up their processes. This will ensure that all government services are available to the public electronically rather than on paper and that the task is finished as soon as possible. The government has taken this significant step in connecting every Indian citizen to the digital world. The Digital India program is the government of India’s flagship initiative, to transform India into a digitally enabled society and knowledge economy. Education, health services, and government offices will all be connected by digital means from the village to the country’s capital under this plan. Going online will help the environment by reducing the amount of paper used.

Objectives of Digital India -:

1. Providing Universal Access to Phones-

The remaining 55,619 communities in the country will be covered by mobile phone coverage. This may lead to the Department of Telecommunications becoming a nodal department. Everyone has access to government information via the Internet. First and foremost, the Post Office will be transformed into a Multi-Service Center where you may obtain a wide range of information.

2. Broadband Highways-

The government is considering building a national optical fiber network across all 2.5 lakh gram panchayats. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is the project’s nodal department. The goal of the Broadband Highway is to connect all of India’s villages to the Internet, which is referred to as Telecom, using fiber optic cable. Network and cloud infrastructure can be connected utilizing the National Information Infrastructure (NII) to provide high-speed connectivity and cloud platform services across the country. This will allow every resident in the hamlet to be connected to the Internet, allowing him to make use of government services.

3. E-Governance-

Government services are delivered more efficiently with the use of digital technologies. The government’s purpose is to find ways to improve its operations and service delivery. Every type of application has been made available online through the usage of E-Governance, in which all types of database information, such as online Aadhar cards, payment gateway, and voter ID cards, will be delivered electronically.

4. E-Kranti-

This is one of Digital India’s multi-purpose initiatives. Many facilities have been provided as a result of this, including schools being connected to Broadband, free Wi-Fi, and all types of courses being made available online. E-education is the name given to these facilities. E-Kranti is an advanced e-governance platform that offers governance services. Online pharmaceutical supply and online medical facilities will be provided through these facilities in the field of health, in addition to all of these purposes. Along with this, online cash, loan, and mobile banking services will be available.

5. Early Harvest Initiatives-

To achieve this goal, the government would provide Wi-Fi in all universities and public areas across the country, supply eBooks in schools, make email the major form of communication, and make the Aadhaar-Enabled Biometric Attendance System available in all central government offices. Will be deployed, and so forth.

6. Information to all

With the use of digital platforms, all information connected to governance and public services for citizens is easily accessible to everybody. Making knowledge available to all people is another major goal of Digital India.

7. Mobile Connectivity-

In cities, everyone has access to a cell phone, but in many villages today, the majority of residents do not have access to one. The goal of Digital India is for every Indian person to have access to a mobile phone, allowing them to access the internet and conduct mobile financial transactions. These capabilities should also be offered in any regions that do not have internet or network access.
