 About IPL (Indian Premier League)

IPL, or Indian Premier League, is its full name. Cricket is a sport that is played in the IPL, which consists of 20 leagues. These matches take place in India and allow players from a variety of nations to compete. Everywhere in the world, people watch IPL. Despite being announced in 2007, the IPL didn’t begin until 2008. The Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to start IPL matches in India. Matches of  IPL are played in different states of India.  The first  IPL was played in 2008. The first IPL match was held from 18 April to 1 June. IPL is played only in India, the winning team is given a prize and trophy.

 

Ten IPL teams 

1. Mumbai Indians

The owner of the Mumbai Indians team is Reliance Industries, this team is a supportive company, that is, the brand value of Steam for  Indians is $180 million so it has crossed the $100 million mark. Mumbai   Indians are the most successful team in IPL. They won their first Champions League in 2011 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 31 runs in the final. The team went on to win their first IPL title in 2013 with a double victory, defeating Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs in the final, and then the same year, defeating Rajasthan Royals by 33 runs to win their second Champions League T20 title. They won their second IPL title on 24 May 2015 and defeated Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs in the final to become the third team to win more than one IPL title. On 21 May 2017, they won their third IPL title by defeating Rising Pune Supergiant by 1 run in a thrilling final, thus becoming the first team to win three IPL titles. Playing in the tournament in 2019, they won their 100th T20 match, becoming the first team to do so. Mumbai won their fifth IPL title by defeating Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets in the final of 2020 and became the first team to win five IPLs.

2. Chennai Super Kings

This team is a Chennai-based franchise of the Indian Premier League. Whose captain from 2008 to 2015 was the former captain of the Indian cricket team Mahinder Singh Dhoni and the coach of the team was Stephen Fleming, the former captain of the New Zealand cricket team. Due to the spot-fixing incident in 2016, the team was banned for two years, which prevented them from competing in the 2016 and 2017 IPLs. Rising Pune Supergiants played in place of Chennai Super Kings in the 2016 Indian Premier League, which was also captained by Mahinder Singh Dhoni. The team made a comeback in the 2018 IPL and won the IPL title. According to the 2015 Indian Premier League, the highest run-scorer in the Indian Premier League so far has also been Chennai Super Kings.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders are the Kolkata franchise of the Indian Premier League. The team’s name is derived from the popular American television series Knight Rider from the 1980s. Dinesh Karthik is the team’s captain, while Brendon McCullum is the head coach. It was bought for a price of ₹3.67 billion at the time, in partnership with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s company Red Chillies Entertainment and actress Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta. In June 2015, they bought a stake in the Caribbean Premier League cricket team Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, and later in 2016, the name was changed to Trinbago Knight Riders. Kolkata Knight Riders won two times in all IPL matches in 2012 and 2014.

4. Rajasthan Royals

The team Rajasthan Royals won the IPL title only once. Rajasthan Royals is a Jaipur-based franchise of the Indian Premier League. Rajasthan Royals won the IPL title in 2008 under the captaincy of Shane Warne. The Captain of Rajasthan Royals is Sanju Samson, who was retained in the 2018 auction. Rajasthan Royals was the first winning team of the Indian Premier League to win the 2008 Indian Premier League under the captaincy of Australian legend Shane Warne.

5. Kings XI Punjab or Punjab Kings

Punjab king’s old name is Kings XI Punjab. Kings XI Punjab changed its name in 2021. She came under the name of Punjab Kings. Mayank Agarwal captain of Punjab Kings. Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman, and Karan Paul are owners of Punjab Kings. This team has not won any match to date.

6. Delhi Capitals OR Delhi Daredevils

This team has been a part of the IPL since the 2008 Indian Premier League. GMR Holdings owner of Delhi Daredevils. In the 2012 Champions League Twenty20, Delhi Daredevils went to the semi-finals and had to face defeat. In the 2018 Indian Premier League, Gautam Gambhir left the captaincy, due to which Shreyas Ayer has become the new captain in his place.

7. Royal Challenger Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore is a team in the Indian Premier League based in the team that has gone to the finals three times. In 2009, 2011, and 2016, they were defeated by the Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Owner of the squad is United Spirits.

8. Sunrises in Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad is the Hyderabad franchise of the Indian Premier League.  David Warner was made the captain of the first team for the 2018 Indian Premier League but Cricket Australia imposed a one-year ban on him for ball-tampering, which led to the change of captain.

9. Gujarat Titans

One of the two new teams in the IPL will also play Gujarat Titans, which is being captained by Hardik Pandya. 

10. Lucknow Super Giants

The name of the new IPL franchise Lucknow has been revealed. The name of the team will be Lucknow Super Giants. Team captain KL Rahul leads the group. Lucknow has made Rahul a part of the team by spending an amount of Rs 17 crore.

Defunct Teams:

1. Deccan Chargers (2008-2012)

Deccan Chargers was the Hyderabad franchise team of the Indian Premier League. The coach of this team is Daren Lehmann and the captain is Adam Gilchrist. Deccan Chargers won the IPL title only once in 2009. Deccan Chargers second-winner team of the IPL.

2. Gujrat Lions (2016-2017)

Gujarat Lions is a cricket franchise based in Rajkot, Gujarat, and, was selected in the Indian Premier League for only 2 editions. In the 2016 Indian Premier League edition, two teams were banned for two years instead of playing two new teams. The captain of this team is Suresh Raina.

3. Kochi Tuskers Kerala (2011)

The Kochi Tuskers Kerala was a franchise Cricket team that played in the Indian Premier League representing the city of Kochi in Kerala.

4. Pune Warriors India (2011-2013)

Pune Warriors India was a franchise IPL cricket team that represented the city of Pune in the IPL. The IPL team was one of the two teams from the Indian state of Maharashtra, the other being Mumbai Indians.

5.Rising Pune Supergiant (2016-2017)

Rising Pune Supergiant abbreviated as the cricket team that played in the Indian Premier League from Pune, Maharashtra for two years. The name of this team was announced on 18 January 2016 and it will play as a new team in the 2016 Indian Premier League apart from this, Gujarat Lions will also play for two years before Rajasthan Royals used to play in its place.
