Neeraj Chopra
Neeraj Chopra was born on 24 December 1997 in a Hindu family of the Roar Maratha caste in the Panipat district of Haryana. His father’s name is Satish Kumar who is a farmer. His mother’s name is Saroj Devi, she is a housewife. Neeraj Chopra is a track and field athlete who is a javelin thrower. He is the second Indian after Abhinav Bindra to win a gold medal in athletics at the World Championships level. Neeraj created history by winning the gold medal in the 87.58m javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Carrier of Neeraj Chopra-
When Neeraj Chopra was only 11 years old, when he saw Jai veer Chaudhary throwing a javelin while practicing javelin throwing at the stadium in Panipat, he also got fond of throwing the javelin. Jai veer Choudhary was a state-level athlete who also represented Haryana. Inspired by these, Neeraj Chopra also started trying to throw the javelin. When Neeraj saw Uwe Hon Neeraj setting a world record at the World Championships, his desire became even stronger.
In 2016, 19-year-old Neeraj made a junior world record throw of 86.48m at the World Under-20 Championships, in Poland. Then in 2017, he claimed the title at the Asian Championships, in Bhubaneswar. In the same year, he came 7th in the IAAF Diamond League. Then in the year 2018, Neeraj claimed the silver medal at the Unfenberg Spearwurf meeting, in Germany. He also won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, in Australia.
Neeraj won 3 more gold medals in the year 2018 Sotteville Athletics Meet, France, Savo Games, Finland, and Asian Games, Jakarta. In 2020, Neeraj finished third at the Korten Games in Finland. This achievement qualified him for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Neeraj reached the final of the Tokyo Olympic event.
In the final round of Tokyo the Olympics 2021, Neeraj Chopra won the first gold medal of the Tokyo Olympics 2021 for India by leading the board with 87.03 in the first attempt, 87.58 in the second attempt, and 76.79 meters in the third attempt. Neeraj became the first Indian athlete to represent India in 100 years, winning an Olympic medal in track and field in the javelin throw event at the Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Neeraj continued to practice javelin along with his studies and he also won many medals at the national level. In the 2016 IAAF World U-20 Championship held in Poland, Neeraj won the gold medal by throwing an 86.48m javelin. Then, being happy with this position of Neeraj, the Army selected him for the post of Naib Subedar as a Junior Commissioned Officer in the Rajputana Regiment. After getting the appointment in the army, Neeraj said in an interview that “No one in his family has got a chance to do a government job before and I am the first member of my family, who has been selected for a government job. This is a matter of great happiness for me and my family.”
